Who writes this guide, why it exists, and how we decide what makes the list.
Maui Adventure Guide is written by a small team of West Maui locals with more than 25 years in the island’s water-sports world. We know the owners, captains and crews behind every operator on this list, have been out on every trip we recommend, and spend more days on Kaanapali Beach than anywhere else.
Why this site exists
Most “things to do in Maui” lists are assembled far from the island by people who have never checked in a guest, read a swell forecast, or watched a boat load off the sand. They rank whatever pays the highest commission. We wanted a short list that a local would hand to a friend: one operator per activity, chosen because it is the best, with real prices, real restrictions and the seasonal rules spelled out.
How we pick
- One operator per activity. No ten-way comparison tables. We tell you who to book.
- Rating floor. Every pick holds 4.8 stars or better across hundreds to thousands of verified reviews.
- Safety first. Coast Guard-certified captains, inspected equipment, crews we trust.
- Value, not price. Open bars, meals and gear included count for a lot.
- We update. Prices and seasons are checked every few weeks. If an operator slips, it comes off the list.
How we make money
When you book through a link on this site, the operator pays us a referral fee. You pay the same price you would pay booking anywhere else, and in some cases less. We do not own any of the companies on the list. See the full disclosure.
